Concrete Repair: What is Segregation?
Segregation Problems and Solutions in Concrete Repair
What is Segregation?
Segregation is the separation of concrete's components (aggregate, cement, water) from one another, disrupting its homogeneous structure. This problem negatively impacts concrete's strength, durability, surface texture, and quality. Segregation typically occurs for the following reasons:
- Inappropriate mixing ratios (excessive water or incorrect aggregate gradation)
- Incorrect concrete casting and vibration techniques
- Casting from height
- Long transport distances and excessive pumping
Segregation can lead to voids, aggregate accumulations, weak structures, and cracks in the concrete surface. This weakens the concrete's mechanical properties and increases the risk of corrosion.

How to Fix Segregation?
Segregation damage on concrete surfaces can be effectively repaired with specialized repair products such as Concrete Repair FINE and Concrete Repair 800 .

Surface Preparation
- Loose materials on concrete surfaces weakened by segregation should be cleaned.
- Dust, dirt and oil residues on the surface should be removed with a brush or pressurized water.
- In order for the surface to be absorbent, the surface should be slightly wetted (no excessive water accumulation) before applying Concrete Repair FINE or Concrete Repair 800 .

Using Concrete Repair FINE in Segregation Repair
- Ideal for fine surface corrections between 0.5 mm and 4 mm.
- It covers the roughnesses caused by slight segregation on the surface.
- Provides high adhesion and strength thanks to its polymer reinforced cement based structure.
- It is resistant to water, frost and chemicals.
APPLICATION:
- For 20 kg of product, a homogeneous mixture is made with 3.4 – 3.6 liters of water.
- After mixing with the mixer for 5 minutes, wait for 2-3 minutes.
- It is applied in a thin layer with a spatula or trowel.
Use of Concrete Repair 800 in Deep Segregation Damage
- Used for deep pits and segregation damage between 5 mm and 30 mm.
- Provides high tensile and compressive strength thanks to its fiber-reinforced structure.
- Provides protection against corrosion. It has a high dynamic elasticity coefficient and prevents crack formation.
APPLICATION:
- For 25 kg of product, add 3.75 – 4 liters of water and mix.
- Filling is done in stages (each layer should be max. 30 mm).
- Wait 1 hour for the next layer.
Segregation is a serious problem that reduces the performance of concrete. However, with proper surface preparation and high-performance repair products like Concrete Repair FINE / 800 , this problem can be safely addressed.
